Pattaya Beach – What to Expect

Pattaya Beach

Pattaya Beach is a very well-known beach resort in Thailand. It is popular among both tourists and locals, especially expatriates. It can be found on the east coast of the Thailand Gulf and takes around 2 hours of travel time from Bangkok, making it the nearest beach resort to the country’s capital. To get there, you can ride a bus at the Ekkamai Bus Terminal or the Northern and Northeastern Bus Terminal in Bangkok. Buses leave at an interval of 30 minutes each.  You can also take a cab from Bangkok to Pattaya Beach at less than 1, 500 baht.

How Pattaya Beach looks

Pattaya is composed of three major areas: Jomtien Beach, Na Klua, and Pattaya Beach. Those who want some peace and quiet go to Na Klua, while families and sports lovers often flock Jomtien Beach. And for those who want to feel the urban life in a beach setting, Pattaya Beach is the ideal place to visit! Pattaya Beach is a 4-kilometer long crescent-shaped sandy bay area fringed with palm trees and it is always teeming with tourists and the place has a lot of malls and other shopping areas, fine-dining and hole-in-the-wall restaurants, and very lively and colourful night attractions that will surely make your visit memorable!

With a tropical wet and dry climate, three seasons are generally experienced in Pattaya Beach: hot and dry from December to February, hot and humid from March to May, and hot and rainy from June to November. These seasons are also experienced on some of the offshore islands near Pattaya Beach and you can go island hopping by taking either a ferry or a speedboat. These neighbouring islands are collectively known as Coral Island, Far Islands, or Near Islands.

Where to go and what to do

As mentioned earlier, Pattaya Beach has various amenities including malls and restaurants. You can also check out different attractions and do many sports and leisure activities to make your stay more interesting and fun.

You can purchase beach and other vacation necessities, souvenirs, food, clothing, and many more from plenty of shopping stalls along Beach Road. If you prefer malls, Pattaya Beach also has them. The most popular mall in Pattaya Beach is the Central Festival Shopping mall, which is also the flagship shopping destination of the area. Comprised of 7 floors, this mall houses over 370 retail shops that sell branded clothing, accessories, food, and many more. Other malls include the Avenue Shopping Mall, the entertainment mall Royal Grand Plaza, and the Central Centre. For a wide range of Thai goods, head on over to the Best Supermarket. Get your fill of excellent seafood at the Big C superstore, while you can purchase imported groceries at Foodland. If you want a different kind of shopping experience, then you should check out the Pattaya Floating Market.

A beach resort isn’t complete without doing a variety of beach activities and Pattaya Beach doesn’t have a shortage of those. Go on daytrips or snorkelling at the Coral Island or Koh Lan. Windsurfing and water skiing are also popular water activities that you shouldn’t miss. If you love the sea as well as amusement parks, then you should include the Pattaya Park in your itinerary. It is both a water park and an amusement park that features roller coasters and other rides, revolving restaurants on top of a 240-meter tall tower, and an observation deck that gives you a great panoramic view of the beach especially during sunset.

Other attractions you can check out include the Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum (located in the Royal Garden Plaza), the wooden castle-like Sanctuary of Truth with dolphin shows performed twice a day, the transsexual-friendly Cabaret Show, the party zone Pattaya Walking Street, and the annual Pattaya Music Festival. There are also various professional golf courses around Pattaya Beach that you can play in.
